Mother's Day

Late Mother's Day post. Stayed home yesterday to take care of baby girl who was home sick with the stomach flu. Bless her heart. I hate to see her sick but love the days I can take care of and dote all over her.

Mother's Day was great! J went to Irvine to be with his mom so Sister, Mom, the kids and I headed to Sage Brush Cantina for brunch. I can't believe it had been 10 years ago since the last Mother's Day we were there. It was a nice brunch.

Baby girl is so tall and my mom is a little shorty.
Love this boy so much!
My mom's pride and joy

Me and mom

After eating, Daughter, Buddy and I were trying to decide what to do the rest of the day. Daughter was kind of in the mood for a movie but the only two that were suitable for the whole family were Speed Racer and Iron Man. Buddy and I had already seen them which are both very good and we didn't mind seeing either one of them again. We couldn't all decide on a movie so Daughter had the great idea of going to Fire Fly. It's a fun little place where you can paint your own pottery. Great idea!

Both picked out what they wanted to paint. Daughter picked out a perfect pasta bowl to paint for me(I've been wanting one for so long but could never find one in the colors I liked)
and Buddy picked out at claw, talon type thing. It's a boy thing I guess....
They worked so hard on their pieces.

And the final products before they are glazed and go into the kiln...

Buddy's claw thingy

And sweet Daughter's plate for me.

We were there for a couple hours and will be able to pick up the pieces on Sunday. I can't wait. They always look so different when they have been all glazed and fired.

After our painting expedition we went home to BBQ.

It was such an awesome day. I loved spending time with my babies. I'm such a lucky mom.
Why are we all three looking at different things???

Happy Birthday to My Mom!!!

Today is my mom's birthday.

We took her to Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas yesterday for a yummy brunch and tasty mimosas.

What a special lady she is. I am so blessed to have her as my mom. She's loving, kind, caring and patient. Lord is she patient. She is a preschool teacher and is loved by all her students and their parents.

Last week at her school they had a box car parade. She's so adorable in her little Anaheim Angel car she made.

Happy Birthday Mom!!!

When Did I Become My Mom??

Growing up my mom always had a certain way she liked things to be done (towels folded a certain way, dishwasher loaded a certain way, beds made a certain way, etc.) I never could understand what the big deal was. "Be happy I'm doing it" is what I always thought.

When did I turn into my mom? Either I never noticed I too had a perferred way of doing what seems to be everything or I've slowly been turning into Mama... Sorry Mom - now I understand your frustration!

Folding towels. I have a certain way of folding our towels. This is a perfect size to fit into our shelves. Plus it looks nice. I'm so guilty of sneaking and refolding the towels after someone else has folded them... Soooo my mom...

And now thanks to Tasty Tater Talks I discovered this awesome way to fold sheets and pack them away nice a neat in the pillow case. I quickly had to pass this on to my mom... she loves it!!!

Unmade bed. I hate to crawl into a bed that was not made. I can't stand to leave the house with the bed being unmade. This is definitely something I've had to adjust to being married...
This is so my mom... I never ever used to be like this. When did that happen??

I love my mom and respect her for so much. She raised my sister and I as a single mom and did a terrific job!!! I am actually happy I'm like my mom - she's a wonderful woman!

Hopefully one day my daughter will appreciate and understand my silliness.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving...

And I have so much to be thankful for.

My dad is such a wonderful dad. I am so thankful that I still have him. He has had many brushes with death including a heart attack 11 years ago ~ he amazed everyone when he made a full recovery. He's survived prostate cancer. I'm very thankful for every day I have with my dad. We have a standing "date" every day at 5:00. I call him on my way home from work (he's in Oklahoma) and we chit chat about everything - news, weather, how Uncle Earl is, the kids, etc.

My mom is a wonderful wonderful lady. She has dedicated her whole life to me and my sister. She has such a warm and loving heart. She's a preschool teacher and is loved by all her students and their parents. I am so incredibly blessed to have her as my mom and my friend. She's a wonderful Grandma to Buddy and Daughter. She dotes on them and would do anything for them.

My loving husband, my wonderful sister, my two beautiful children(Daughter & Buddy), my dear dear friends (many I have had since grade school), my Duncan dog.

I don't take anything for granted. I know I'm blessed and am so thankful for everything I have and the people in my life.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!!!

Weekend Happenings

Saturday - started very very early with a soccer game at 8:00am. This was the first to two playoff games we had that day. They won both games!!! Buddy even had a goal in the second game which was a nail biter. I can not sit during the games - I'm usually pacing the sidelines cheering my little guy on. The game was so tight and we scored in the last few minutes to win! We have a very tough game next Saturday against the #1 seeded team in the division, the Evil Leprechauns. If we win or tie on Saturday, we will advance and play another game on Saturday. Very exciting!!!

Big Bang Theory - No, not the t.v. show - Me! after I got my hair cut. I have not had bangs in so long. I'm still getting used to them but it's a nice change. The good thing about a hair cut is if you don't like it - it will grow back - it's not permanent.

The rest of Saturday was spent not doing too much. Cooking and cleaning (what a good little wife/mommy). I made a yummy broccoli cheese soup and an OK banana bread. This would have been a lot better had I followed the recipe. Ooops!

Sunday - aaahhhh time change!!! I'm not one that can sleep in. Sleeping in to me is 8:30. So imagine my surprise when I woke up at 9:00! And better yet I gained an hour - because it was 8:00 because of the time change. It's the little things that get me excited. We all went to breakfast (my mom, sis, Daughter, Buddy, J and me) to a little place right around from our house. The food was good but the company was great! I'm so close to my family - I consider myself so lucky and so blessed to have the kind of relationship I do with them.

The rest of the day I finished up the cleaning and *ugh* grocery shopping. I actually don't mind this - I'm strange I know. But I am a coupon shopper and once upon a time I would spend quite a bit of time clipping, organizing and shopping AND enjoy it.

Made dinner, watched Princess Bride (all time favorite) with Buddy, watched Brothers and Sisters ( I love this show!!!) and then it was time for bed!

I LOVE Sunday nights when my house is clean, laundry and grocery shopping has been done.

Not too much of an overly exciting weekend but a weekend filled with exciting things.

I Cried....

Today was a sad day if you are a Days of our Lives fan.

Days of our Lives has been part of my life since I was a little girl. I was brought up in a house where my mom watched "Day's" daily. I remember when I was 8 my mom excitedly said "Get dressed!!! We are going to a wedding!!!" I was completely shocked but excited too. Turned out to be the wedding of Doug and Julie - on Days of our Lives. What the heck mom?

What happened today? John Black died - aka the actor Donald Drake Hogestyn is leaving the show after many many years (since 1985).

During those years he had many "occupations"
Works for the ISA, Owns Basic Black, Owns half of Alamain Industries, Manages the Toscano Foundation, Titan Publishing Board Member, Bella Magazine Board Member, Horton Center Co-Chairperson, Salem University Board Member, Salem Police Department Investigator, Mercenary , Army Doctor , Art Smuggler and Priest (fake)

So it was a very sad day today as John Black died with his family surrounding him - his daughter Belle had me in tears - yes tears. Marlena the great love of his life was by his side as the heart monitor flat lined (original I know)

What is it about day time soaps that keeps us watching? The story lines are usually the same but with different actors, they are so predictable, they make us crazy! But I still watch daily.

So, today was a sad day in Salem. I cried as John took his last breath....
